A content calendar vs an immediate publisher

Buffer is a respected, well-established social media management platform. It is built for teams and creators who need scheduling queues, analytics, a content calendar, and support for mainstream platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok. If you need to plan your content in advance, Buffer is an exceptional tool for that job.

Nootti is built for a different set of platforms and an entirely different workflow. Bluesky, Mastodon, and Nostr are decentralised networks that thrive on real-time, authentic interactions. Nootti allows you to publish to all three simultaneously directly from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, with no server relay and no complex scheduling queues.

Buffer is the right tool when

  • You need to schedule posts in advance for Instagram, LinkedIn, or TikTok
  • Post analytics and engagement metrics guide your content strategy
  • You rely on a visual content calendar view
  • You are collaborating with a team to review and approve posts

Nootti is the right tool when

  • Your audience is primarily on Bluesky, Mastodon, and Nostr
  • You prefer immediate, spontaneous posting directly from your device
  • Privacy matters—your credentials remain in the iOS Keychain
  • You want to seamlessly post from other apps using the iOS Share Sheet

The server relay question

Buffer works by routing your posts and credentials through its cloud infrastructure. Your post is queued on their servers and published automatically at your chosen time. For mainstream social networks, this is the standard approach and works brilliantly.

However, decentralised platforms are often chosen specifically for their privacy and architectural independence. For Nostr—a protocol built entirely on the principle that you control your own keys—routing through a third-party server is fundamentally at odds with the platform's design.

Nootti takes a strict device-to-platform approach. Your Bluesky App Passwords, Mastodon OAuth tokens, and Nostr keys are stored in your device's iOS Keychain. Nothing is uploaded to or processed by an intermediate Nootti server.
